Next Generation Cloud Computing Systems: Design, Implementation, Evaluation and Education
Overview
This ongoing project (2025–2028) designs, implements, and evaluates new cloud computing solutions to improve performance and efficiency for real Ecuadorian and global use cases, in collaboration with the University of Würzburg, while also developing better ways to teach cloud computing and distributed systems.
Problem Statement
Organizations need cloud computing systems that perform and scale better for their real workloads, but designing, implementing, and evaluating such systems — and teaching the underlying distributed systems concepts effectively — remain open challenges.
My Contribution
As a PhD student and researcher on the team, I contributed to designing and evaluating new cloud computing solutions, including co-authoring “An Analysis of HPC and Edge Architectures in the Cloud,” an analysis of high-performance and edge computing architectures in the cloud.
Results & Impact
The project has produced multiple peer-reviewed publications from the research team and an ongoing collaboration with the University of Würzburg. My own contribution included the publication above analyzing HPC and edge cloud architectures, part of the project’s broader effort to design, implement, and evaluate better cloud computing solutions and teaching methods.
